How I’m Decorating My Space to Feel More Me
For a while, my room felt…off. Not bad, not ugly—just not me. You know that feeling when you look around and realize your space still reflects an older version of yourself? That was me. Same walls, same layout, same vibes—but I’ve changed.
So I decided it was time for a reset. Nothing extreme or expensive—just little tweaks and intentional updates to make my space feel more aligned with who I am now. Here’s how I’m decorating my space to feel more me (and maybe it’ll inspire you to do the same).
🌙 Setting the Mood: What I Wanted My Space to Feel Like
Before I touched anything, I asked myself: how do I want to feel in my space? The answer?
Grounded. Cozy. Calm. Inspired.
Not Pinterest-perfect. Just personal.
I’ve been leaning into soft lighting, natural textures, and earthy tones that make me feel at peace. Think warm lamps, layered throws, dried flowers, wood accents, and soft music in the background. Less clutter, more intention.
🪄 Small Changes That Made a Big Impact
You don’t have to buy new furniture or spend a fortune to refresh your space. Here’s what I changed:
✨ 1. Switched Up My Lighting
I swapped out harsh overhead lights for a couple of warm-toned lamps and fairy lights. It immediately made my room feel softer and more welcoming.
🛏️ 2. New Textiles, New Energy
A textured blanket and some neutral throw pillows gave my bed a mini makeover. It feels like a boutique hotel now—aka my dream.
🖼️ 3. Made a DIY Gallery Wall
I printed out a mix of art prints, quotes, and even a photo of my grandma from the 70s. It’s now the first thing I see when I walk in, and it makes me smile every time.
🌿 4. Added Plants (But Make Them Low-Maintenance)
Two snake plants, a pothos, and a tiny succulent later—my room feels so much more alive. Bonus: they’re hard to kill.
🕯️ 5. Scent + Sound = Vibe
I light a sandalwood candle in the evenings and keep a chill playlist running on low volume. It’s like therapy in scent and sound form.
💖 The Personal Touches That Really Matter
Anyone can copy a Pinterest room, but I wanted my space to tell a story. That’s where the personal stuff came in:
- A stack of books that changed my mindset
- My travel journal on the shelf
- A small dish with crystals gifted by a friend
- Polaroids tucked into my mirror
It’s the little things that made the biggest difference.
🎯 Still a Work in Progress
Is it finished? Not really—and I think that’s the point. Like me, my space is evolving. I still want to figure out how to style that weird corner by the window (currently home to a lonely yoga mat). But instead of feeling frustrated, I’m kind of enjoying the process.
✨ Your Turn
If you’ve been feeling disconnected from your space, maybe this is your sign to shift things around—light a candle, move a chair, hang something that matters. You don’t need a whole new room. You just need to make it feel like you.
